iphone vs ipod touch comparison

iPod touch 8GB (2nd Generation)

Well I am sure you all have been wondering why to buy the ipod touch. The first and most important reason, which apple and ATNT do not want you to know is the VOIP functionality. For those who are unfamiliar this is the ability to run applicaitions such as skype on the iphone. Skype is a program which allows users to make calls to one another free on any wireless connection, you also have the ability to receive calls which a standard phone number and call normal phone numbers. All this from any wireless internet connection.

A few problems have arised from this implementation in short because ATNT cannot compete with the VOIP technology. The iphone is superior to the ipod touch in that it has a speaker and microphone built for making phone calls. The speaker if you think about it has to have two modes one for playing music without headphones and one which has a closer connection faint enough to hear but not loud enough for others to hear such as that of a phone. The ipod touch’s speaker is not the same as the iphones even though it was promised by apple. The ipod touch’s speaker is more of a music players speaker so that everyone can hear the music, it was not meant for VOIP. The new 3rd gen was meant to eliminate this small problem but rumor has it ATNT had gotten to Apple and with this power they were able to contain the VOIP dilemma for now.

There are workarounds to making Ipod touch's much like an Iphone. One solution is the headphones with built in mic sold by apple and included on some models.

iPod Earphones with Remote and Mic

You can also purchase tiny thumbtack size mic’s for the iphone which only cost a few dollars! The advantages of the Ipod touch is that you do not have to buy a plan to use the VOIP software. Whereas the iphone you cannot buy without a plan and if in fact you find a way it will run you upwards of $500 even on sites like ebay. This defeats the whole purpose of trying to save money by using VOIP.

The clearcut winner is the ipod touch in terms of the frugal factor and dont get me wrong it is not as convenient as the iphone in terms of making calls but it is 1/3 of the price and no monthly bills! I hope this cleared up some confusion on the differences of both devices please feel free to leave me any questions in the comments section.
